Sahak Poghosyan: Silence of My Grandmother’s Eyes.

On the 12th of March 2015 the  Cafesjian Center for the Arts presented the first exhibition of 2015  –  “Sahak Poghosyan: silence of my grandmother’s eyes”. There was presented  one of  the largest projects of Sahak Poghosyan, which consists of eleven works. Curator of the exhibition is  Nazareth Garoyan.  In his project, Sahak Poghosyan announces the theme of  Armenian Genocide in 1915, which for many years was the cause of his great-grandmother’s silence. Nine of the works are made of multi-colored fabric  of ancient Armenian Mendaro (veil), sealed in wax. This is a unique method of sealing and covering up the memories  under a thick layer of wax. At the same time, the artist does not hide the pain and in another work he presents  his great-grandmother’s earrings as a another metaphor for the memories,  that perceived as  scared and petrified eyes. At the end of the evening Sahak Poghosyan gifted to  attendees the catalog of the exhibition with his autograph.
